candidates made their pitch -- it drew more attention this year than usual. in a moment we will have -- but first garrett haik joins us live with what happened inside with trump and the other contenders. >> all three came out with the same major talking points in play. all three promised to tear up the nuclear deal with iran, all three promised to move the us embassy in israel to jerusalem and all three condemned palestinian violence against israeli violence -- israelis. -- >> republican presidential candidate, donald trump. >> reporter: when he took the stage tonight about half the audience of 15,000 sat on their hands. tentative applause

trump to the podium. there he did something unusual. he delivered a talk -- a prepared speech vowing his similarity to a traditional candidate. >> i didn't come to you to pander to you about israel. that's what politicians do. all talk, no action. >> reporter: he packed his speech with rhetoric about taking on iran. >> when i become president the days of treating israel like a second-class citizen will end on day one. >> reporter: the crowd warmed to trump, whose applause line sounded much like his rivals. >> america will stand unapologetically with the nation of israel. only one arrest for misdemeanor charges. democrat bernie sanders says the united states should have unwavering support for israel but he also added that in middle east peace solution must recognize the civil rights of the palestinian people. he did not intent -- attend the conference, instead delivering his remarks at a campaign event in salt lake city. hillary clinton did attend the conference saying that the country needs steady hands, not someone who is negotiable about everything. earlier today he led journalists -- on a tour of the hotel. it's being built not far from the white house. it will feature restaurants, stores and luxury hotel rooms. one way or another, with trump will make his way -- one way or another, trump will make his

way to pennsylvania avenue. and anti-trump -- protester a misdemeanor charge of assault with injury at a rally on tucson on saturday. pettway is assigned to the tucson air force base. they said they are reviewing the incident. and new york times cbs poll released tonight by the ultra publican field embarrassed by trump's campaign but would support him. 31% for clinton, 52% for trump. records were not -- candidates on both sides have been holding campaigns here. utah is one of three states holding elections tomorrow. republicans and democrats will vote in the arizona primaries, a state sanders has been betting on with its 85 delegates. democrats will caucus in idaho. stay on top of all the developments in this election.

hearing. in print county and outpouring of support this week for the viewing and funeral of a police officer will be open to the public. officer kolten was in plainclothes when he was shot and killed by another officer who mistook him for a gunman shooting at the district 3 police station. officer colson's viewing will be held thursday in phelps will. -- another viewing takes place thursday. they've released a report -- investigators say 24-year-old mitchell was not on a waiting list for -- a mental hospital even though he'd been ordered to go there. he stopped taking his medication and was arrested after being caught stealing from a portsmouth convenience store. he died of a heart condition coupled with a loss of 10% of his body weight.

the state trooper who killed two employees in a botched robbery -- windbreaks filed for bankruptcy last year investigators say he shot and killed the two turnpike workers yesterday when an armored truck came to pick up toll money. breaks was killed in a shootout with police. police have reopened a section of ridge road near woodfield and damascus that had been closed because of an accident this afternoon involving a tractor-trailer and two picked up trucks. -- pickup trucks. one was suffering -- one drivers the -- suffered life- threatening injuries. smoke on the fourth floor. at last check no injuries reported there. no word yet on the cause of the fire. and neighbors are sounding

pierce >> wilson boulevard after he tried to tow a car without properly securing it. when an officer pulled pierce over, they found a number of stolen items in his truck. >> you never know when someone says -- the car is out of sight. >> all of the stolen goods allegedly came from cars parked on this lot but they didn't say whether or not pierce stole from the cars he told for work. he said one of the current -- company drivers might be stealing from cars. a spokesperson for the police department wouldn't say where pierce works but sources say he worked here at advanced towing company, a place they received national attention when a surveillance camera caught and espn reporter be reading lot attendants. and it seems like it's well known around here. >> everybody knows -- that's what they are. >> they've been accused of predatory towing and last year

and then by 1:00 -- sweater in the morning, and then eventually high temperatures of 67 to about 72 but all in all a pretty nice easter weekend. futurecast, 6 am tomorrow we're in the 30s. 31 in patrick and 32 in manassas and then by 9:00 -- most of the day is mostly sunny, back in the 40s by lunchtime, you still might want a light sweater or jacket. still 55 downtown, 56 in silver springs. 54 in fairfax and by 6:00 -- we might not quite make it to 50 -- 60. 60 in leesburg in manassas but still a -- and manassas but still a fantastic day. cold stardom and 42 at 9:00, 50 by 11:00 and 55 x 1 p.m. and 55 x 1 p.m.
